Typed Response 13: Insect Country G
A. 3 SIGNIFICANT FACTS
a. The poet does not speak at all throughout the video, emphasizing the words she is
writing on the board.
b. She uses the color yellow to emphasize the “sign”, almost as if it were a warning.
c. The expression of the author is blank and unhappy, hinting at the overall mood we
should take from the poem film.
B. DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH
a. The poet states how we have accomplished nothing, but discovering an ant proxy.
She uses this to describe how he can quickly access websites and things we need.
I think the reference may in part have to do with her believing most of what we do
is run by “tiny” people who we forget exist or do anything at all, but without them
we wouldn’t be able to function in today’s society. This may hint on her blank
expression of feeling like we have forgotten those people. Overall, I think the
author is aiming at the fact that we aren’t actually as brilliant as we claim to be,
because there are people running most of what we do. She believes this because
we aren’t making any “p-word” aka progress. I believe this references to the title
of “Insect Country” because we all sort of march around and follow our leader,
but forget who makes everything we do possible. Our president serves as a Queen
and we are the little ants that do whatever she says.
C. QUESTION
a. Why does the author choose to write out her poem/thoughts?
Typed Response 14: SHAKE
A. 3 SIGNIFICANT FACTS
a. The words are placed specifically on the screen to represent some image or shape,
but the pattern is mostly unrecognizable.
b. There are only a few select words in blue while the rest are in grey/white, but
these words are illegible.
c. The author speaks words, but they don’t sound like actual words, (or English),
which may be due to the way they are reading the words off of the screen.
B. DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH
a. The poet constantly references elders and life. These two consistent words I hear
make me believe the poem has something to do with the fact that life is a lot
different now and “noisier”. She also references the title “shake” when she was in
public. I think the shaking may be due to nervousness and confusion of change.
When comparing the past and the present, things are a lot more complicated. The
shaking could also represent a seizure/epilepsy. The sporadic movement of the
words and her voice sounding very uneven and “shaky” may be her actually
having a seizure. This is because speech becomes slurred, and it may also be why
the loudness of the city was bothering her. Ultimately, the author could be
experiencing mental indifference or physically be shaken by an experience. I
believe the author is a combination of both, which may have led to her “shaking
