But this requires money up front which former slaves don"t have. They agreed that they had certain rights but that they shouldn"t have power. Henry grady: writer that called this the new south creed. Railroads in the south: twice as many railroad, between 1880 and 1900 it tripled. There was a dramatic increase in railroad miles. Industry in the new south: southern industry is mainly based of processing raw materials. But bc there are no factiores to do this the jobs in the south are low paying hard work jobs. This means a low paid work force, which means southern towns, and cities have lower revenue. This means they are providing less services for citizens.
