KIN 2504 Lecture : Kin 2504 Lecture 7
Document Summary
Muscular fitness: the ability of our musculoskeletal system to perform daily recreational activities without undue fatigue. Muscular strength: the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to contract with maximal force. Muscular endurance: the ability of a muscle to contract repeatedly over an extended period of time. Resistance training (weight training): put measured stress on the musculoskeletal system, resulting in greater strength and endurance. Exists only in the heart; helps pump blood. Slow-twitch: move slowly over a long period of time. Fast twitch: contract quickly and forcefully, and fatigue quickly. 3 types of muscle contraction: prompted by the nervous system. Isotonic: characterized by consistent muscle tension as the contractions proceed and results in the movement of a boy part. Isometric: characterized by consistent muscle lengthe4ning without contraction with no visible movement. Isokinetic: consistent contraction speed within a moving body part. Improves body composition, weight management, and body image.
