Individual is to essentially to believe in morality and live their life base. In the book, the main argument is between the ethical and the religious. The ethical argument is mostly about the universe and the natural world involving the laws of nature with hegel. The idea of ethics of an on the greater-good. the religious argument is associated with the individual, with the knight of faith and the leap of faith . The idea that one can have a private relationship with god that overcomes the ethical is also a conversation brought up. Kierkegaard introduces a paradox that basically sets the tone of the book. "the act of resignation does not require faith, for what i gain is my eternal consciousness. The act of resignation does not require faith, but to get the least little bit more than my eternal consciousness requires faith, for this is the paradox. "
