Three key dimensions of mass media: as communication, as technology, as an industry (disney, sony, companies) Mass media as communication & mass communication of technology: Inter means between (usually face to face: one-on-one communication, not one-way communication; rather, a dialogue. Internal (within-your-own-head) communication: also lots of feedback especially if you have conversation with yourself ( or you have multiple personalities) Group communication: one-on-more-than-one communication, closer to one-way communication. Mass communication: few- to-many communication, allows the least amount of feedback from the audience, process involving creators, channels, and society, direct mail, billboards, mass media. Linear model of communication: sender (message) (encoding, mass media channel, receivers (audience, effect (decoding) Problems with a linear communication model: problem 1: it doesn"t distinguish between different types of media/channels. Problem 2: it assumes the sender is concrete rather than a swarm of individuals.
