The four needs satisfied by groups are: social, esteem, security, and reality needs. In this stage, members try to determine what behaviors are acceptable and what is to be gained from group membership. Members become acquainted and the skills of the different members are identified. Also, ground rules are established here concerning things such as production. In this stage, members of the group still see themselves as individuals rather than a part of the team. They don"t feel responsible for the group as a whole. Storming-intragroup conflict/hostilities/interpersonal conflict likely to occur here as members vie for certain roles. There is disagreement over goal priorities (what"s important to the group), over who is to be responsible for what, and over how such differences are to be resolved. Start to get a pecking order. decision-making likely to be most difficult during this stage. Norming-stage where a sense of solidarity begins to take hold. Group starts to feel cohesive during this stage.
