Definition of framing; how the media chooses to portray what they cover. The media focuses attention on certain events and then places the event within a specific context. The havard implicit bias test; weapons iat is used to demonstrate the conscious-unconcious natural reactions that deal with scientific psycology. Non-scientific ways of knowing: authority; teacher-parents, firsthand experience/self-discovery (trust what our senses experience, secondhand experience, popularity, democracy; jury, tradition of tenacity (i believe x because i always believed x, common sense. Aspects of the scientific method: experimentation, room for doubt, creating a hypothesis, falsifiability, peer review process, open mind, occam"s razor, rule out alternative explanations. Tenants of the scientific method: research is public, the science is objective, empirical, systematic and cumulative, predictive, self-correcting.
