Political parties: definition - an organization that sponsors candidates for public office under the organization"s name. What political parties do that interest groups do not do is run for an actual candidate. The phrase actually has several different meanings: party as organization- local, state, national, party in government- idea that party, party in the electorate- that"s us. An actual party to work a party actually needs to do. Actually do business. structure is how government operates. Party important in how congress structures and how government operates. Nominate candidates for election to public office many ways to do this, but there are two main distinctions: let the people choose, or let the party officials choose. Structure the voting choice in elections not everyone sees this as a good thing it also limits choice. Propose alternative government programs some question whether this is true these days. Party platforms what their party stands for and finds important.
