PSYC 2000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Learning, Classical Conditioning, Lightning
Document Summary
Learning is any relatively permanent change in behavior brought about by an experience. Through life we learn to associate things with each other. Our minds naturally connect events that occur in sequence. Gestalt contiguity idea- that things occur close in time to one another are grouped together. If some thing precedes another thing we learn to associate the two things together. Learning that things go together is very adaptive. Ucs = unconditioned stimulus- stimulus not learned. Ucr = unconditioned response- involuntary, just happens automatically. No learning that has to occur for the ucr to happen due to the ucs. Cs = conditioned stimulus - learned, starts off as neutral then becomes conditioned. Cr = conditioned response - learned response- not as strong as ucr. Neutral stimulus must become before the unconditioned stimulus (i. e. the bell needs to come before the food) The time between the two stimuli should be close - can even overlap - within 5 seconds ideally.
