Document Summary
Resource- something that can be used to support or help. Natural resource: something found in nature that is necessary or useful to humans (forest, mineral ddeposits, freshwater) Renewable natural resource- necessary or useful to humasn that is constantly replenished by natural processes. Superior competitors, often dominant during late succession, well adapted stable environemts (elephants, gorillas, hippos, whales) Interspecific completion- (different species going for same resource) Interference competion two species fighting over the same resource (direct confrontation) is not good: parasitism, disease- detrimental organisms infesting or infecting a host species. Interspecific interactions- interactions with other species may not be detrimental commensalism +/0 interaction. Limiting factors- the presence, absence, or magnitude if biotic and abiotic environmental factors can limit population growth: thresholds increase the chances of rapid environmental and ecological change. Also dependent on age structure and probability or mortality, may even be higher in developed than developing countries as a population: doubling time= 70/apgr.
