Sociology: the scientific study of societies and social life/environment. After 1,000 years of feudalism, europe was starting to change dramatically. Adam smith: believed to be the first sociologist; known for wealth of nation, published in april. Wealth of nation: argued for a free american economy, laissez-faire; people should be able to engage in any type of economy without government interference; death is measure by what is produced verses what money is made. Mercantilism: system used to control trade anything produced in colonies had to be shipped to the mother country; if it wasn"t consumed in the mother country, it had to be shipped to. Presented a problem in england because parliament controlled the economy.
