Document Summary

Family: most difficult thing to define, because it is never perfect. A group of kin united by blood, marriage, or adoption who shares a common residence for some part of their lives and assume reciprocal rights and obligations with regard to one another. Nuclear: core group; which doesn"t include aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins. Extended: everyone in your blood or marriage line; people who are meaningful. Extended family household: when your extended family lives with you (hispanic has the most % of extended family households) (blacks have the most % of downward extended families) Whites are less likely to live in extended households; maybe because of culture, stress independence. Modified extended family structure: when you don"t live in an extended household but still have relationships with those members. Procreation: when you get married and start your own family with your spouse; create your family. Common in africa, rich and old men usually.
