Arena (theatre in the round/ on all 4 sides) Historical context: the first stages were outdoors in natural light, moved indoors by gas light, kings perspective, audience was there to be seen, electricity. Ancient greece: theatron-theatre space, where to see theatre, chorus- performed by orchestra, asked questions to audience, parodos-where actors entered/exited, proskenion- where main actors perform, skene- backdrop/where gods appear. Understanding a play: in order to fully understand a play, you cannot ignore the performed aspect, theatre happens when a a script is brought to life (theatre id given life, it takes many people to make this happen.
