Germany"s plan was to send armies through belgium & face light defenses and take paris from the north (schlieffen plan) Britain had an alliance with france and russia (triple entente: germany assumed britain would not join the war. If germany knew britain was going to join the war, then they may not have tried to pull off the schlieffen plan: belgium is taken over by the british military.
