Native occupation, settled in with infectious idealism . No initial action by the federal government-- wanted to wait them out. Brought attention to native treaties and struggles. Russell means: constantly returned to souix territory to learn about his heritage despite being out and about in american society. Civil rights marches were unfortunately not well planned ( trail of broken treaties ) Place of taking a stand and demanding rights. Govt won war against american indian movement despite large-scale protests.
