Document Summary

It"s easier to see a little bit of light in a dark room, than to tell the difference between a lot of light and a lot, a lot of light: sensation and perception are adaptive. When a shirt is really itchy, you get used to it throughout the day. People with down syndrome have a hard time processing and adapting: sensation and perception are active processes. Active process always working: common features of sensory systems, transduction. Process of stimulus energy from the outside gets translated into a electrical signal in the brain: threshold. Minimum amount of energy required to activate the system: adaptation, sensory systems are sensitive to changes in stimulation level, perception as active, selective attention. Focusing of conscious awareness on a particular stimulus. Process where the stimulus energy hits a sensory neuron, to the first neuron to pass that message.
