THEO 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Christology, Odysseus, Arianism
Document Summary
Modern day superheroes tell us about our aspirations. Tradition traced through paul bunyan, robin hood, beowulf, and odysseus. Modern box office is new oral tradition . Moses: set adrift to become his people"s savior. Jesus: sent from above to become savior. Most of all, they seek restored paradise. Great tragedy, challenge, or responsibility that incentivizes them. Uneasy relationship with the law; uphold justice in the face of the law (mlk just vs unjust laws) Mimic language of god-man mythology (noble origins, god-like powers, savior capabilities) Angst for a paradise lost (loss of eden) Gain a sense of commission-- mend the torn life. Our inner discontentment connects with that idea. Restore a bit of eden by upholding justice. After commission, difficult journey with a god who assists them. Incarnation: second person of the trinity (son or jesus) Christology= the study of christ/jesus/son/2nd person of the trinity. Arianism: there was a time when jesus was not.
