Document Summary

Acetyl coa- 2 carbon group added to the four. Product of oxaloacetate + acetyl coa= citric acid. Decarboxylation- remove carbon dioxide- steal electrons and put them into nadh. Dehydrogenation- forms fadh2 (lose hydrogens) occurs in citric acid cycle! Citric acid cycle must run twice because per one glucose=2 fadh2 and 6 nadh. Glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, and the citric acid cycle has completely oxidized each carbon in glucose. The 24 electrons in the c-c and c-h bonds have been transferred to 10 nadh and 2fadh2. Objective- describe the work that is preformed when energy is removed from the electrons. Electrons keep bouncing until they get to oxidation because otherwise we would combust. Some energy is lost in this, but the lost energy is used in active transport of the protons. Objective- illustrate conversion of energy of the h gradient is transformed into atp (chemiosmosis)
