But me in the theatre group and my other theatre friends are all diverse: characteristics of crowds- there is a high level of agreement among adolescents regarding the characteristics of members of specific groups. Importance of belonging: being part of a group becomes less important as adolescents grow older, its important for 12 year old to have group- then it becomes less important. Online social networks- cyberspace peers: myspace (really?) Facebook and twitter: online gaming, new method of social interaction, augment or replace traditional peers popular and even controversial people have high status and have advantages. Rejected and neglected kids are high risk- fewer friends, less social skills, no real extracurriculars, anxiety, depression, don"t form good relationships, less likely to be overall successful.
