Tissue- a group of cells that work together to accomplish a common function: there are 4 primary tissue types in the human body. Connective tissue: storage, support, protection (ligaments, tendence, fat) Nervous tissue used for cellular communication, coordination. Tissue: epithelial: covers the body surfaces, lines cavities and organs and form glands. Squamous: in the lungs, heart and blood vessel linings. Cuboidal: one layer of cupe-shaped cells in kidney tubules and glands. Squamous: flattened cells located on skin lining of mouth esophagus and vagina. Connective tissue: most abundant an widely distributed tissue in the body it consists of cells in a matrix. Matrix- is a combination of cells and other materials that create a structure ex. Cartilage- (semisolid) is tough but flexible serving as a cushion between bones. Hyaline few fibers, more cells: found at the end of long bones such as nose ribs trachea. Fibrocartilage: fewest number of cells but the most fibers, disk between vertebrates.
