Document Summary

Refers to way in which we receive and interpret information from any of our senses. We tend to be unaware of the perceptions and bias we have. We absorb only a small fraction of the world around us. We tend to tune into the things we agree with. What we perceive does not necessarily reflect reality. The assumption that our way of thinking and acting is naturally superior to any others. Can be very subtle and difficult to recognize. We are all ethnocentric to some degree. Realizing not if but when it influences our thinking and judgement is important. A way of putting people into our own mental boxes. Causes you to lose or distract from potentially valuable information. Causes people to feel vulnerable and less confident in our abilities. Prejudice is irrational and inflexible opinion formed on the basis of limited or insufficient knowledge. Together they mean a prejudgement and misjudgement. Prejudice focuses on them and not us.
