Social interactions are ritualized(enculturated) - d. t. denaturalizes communication styles. Style diffs are influenced by gender - gendered patterns. Can tell social class by the way people speak. When dominant group decides the manner in which language should be used or spoken. Used to evaluate other and discourage unwanted speakers. There is no right way to write or speak. Type of cltral capital -> how we value ways diff people speak. Vocal fry -> young women professional, educated. Oppression spreads, now when i hear other women doing it i find it annoyingit"s like i become this woman who hates women, it"s like you"ve absorbed the language of your oppressors .
