Very few options for free white labors w/out the men for enslaved labor. Place to push native americans so they don"t disturb anybody back east. Fragmented groups of other parties form together. Struggled to nd a candidate to relate to both south and north citizens. Party platform explicated had and contained support and commitment for prohibiting the spread of slavery to the west surgeon, rst to illinois and then to wisconsin. 1833 moved with his owner into free territory were his owner was serving as an army. Moved back to missouri with owner, and his owner dies, the widow tries to sell him. His residence in free territories meant he became free as soon as he entered those free. Was dred scott a citizen? (only citizens can bring suits to the supreme court)
