Many contain two cohabiting adults, one is the parent. Created by divorce, or births to unmarried women. Births to unwed mothers are more common than those created by divorce. Over 85% of single parent families are headed by women. Single mothers much more likely to be in poverty than single fathers. Can precede marriage or occur after divorce. Not found a suitable partner- intentionally become single parent. Many forms; parents outside romantic partner or live in partner. A male relative, family associate or mother"s partner who demonstrates father like behavior. Supports from social networks that the family can fall back on in times of financial need. Parents in a prevoius hetersexual relationship or using donors, artificial reproduction technologies or by adopting. Likely one is legal single parents even if a partner is present. Children in these relationships only have one legal adoptive or biological parent. Accept responsibilities and challenges for single parenthood. Recognition of the need for self nurturing.
