Many cases where there was quite a lot of negativity towards the chinese: Thailand (common thai-chinese marriage and assimilation) & singapore (majority ethnic chinese & multicultural) Overseas chinese higher economic performance than native people. Those groups experiencing more discrimination should have worse outcomes. The closer to discrimination, the worse the group outcome. Within-group trajectories (looking at groups over time) don"t show clear effects of discrimination over time, across groups. Internationally, jews and chinese (and within u. s. , japanese and chinese) have had direct and consistent rise after legal/overt discrimination is lifted. Clear, linear increase in their performance over time. Difference between overt discrimination and being liked . These groups faced economic success while still being disliked. American blacks have different trajectory, with immediate rise and then leveling or decline (slavery, segregation) % of black families below poverty showed strongest decline between 1940 and 1960. Doubling of blacks in professional, managerial, high-level occupations in the decades before 1960s.
