movement
• Supremacy of whites and iferiorit of laks
• Tocqueville, racisms in the north is more acute than racisms in south. North- legal rights
have been given to blacks but in general whites have superiorities. Whereas in south-
slavery is still legal so they generally overall have more power than African Americans
• Tocqueville (PG 400-401)- the prejudie of the aster, the prejudie of rae ad fiall
the prejudie of the hites.
• Dubois argues that the era of reconstruction did not achieve what it had to achieve
leading to the rise of Jim Crow.
Research question: is there evidence of an ongoing racial tyranny of the majority?
➢ Main argument: Jim crow laws (1892-1965) perpetuated racial tyranny of the white
majority via political, economic and social exclusion.
➢ Black Codes (1865-1877)
- Blacks codes are the laws are part of the larger pattern of suppression from the
southern whites on blacks.
➢ Pless s Ferguso -1896
- Pless ought a first lass trai tiket o a Whites ol trai ad as asked to
leave but he argued that they were taking away his 13th and 14th amendment rights.
