Prev/cormo soc phobia common, more in females than male, lp 12%; typically begin during adolescence or early adulthood; many have comorbid disorders like anxiety or depression treatment soc phobia. Generalized anxiety disorder (gad) criteria chronic or excessive worry about multiple events and activities; occurs more days than not in 6 month prd; plus 3 of 6 symptoms (i. e. on edge, fatigued, tense, irritable, poor sleep, etc) Psych causes/factors gad uncontrollable/unpredictable stressers, worry, cognitive bias toward potentially threatening info in envirnoment. Bio causes/factors gad small genetic contribution, gaba deficiencies especially in core emoti onal brain regions, 5-ht deficiencies. Lp: 5. 7%; 2x more in females than males, 60-80% report anxiety most of life; occasional panic attacks, other aniety and mood disorders treatment gad may be most difficult to treat; antiolytic drugs, busprione, cbt. Obsessions unwanted, intrusive thoughts or images; causes distress. Compulsions behaviors= neutralize obsessive thoughts/images, "prevent some dreaded event or situation, reduce distress. Obsession, compulsions, may occupy hrs of a day.
