Protagonist - the main character of a story. Antagonist - the opposing force to the protagonist (this does not have to be a person) Dynamic character - a character that changes in some way. Static character - a character that remains exactly the same. Flat character - a character in which we are only given one characteristic. Omniscient - we (the reader) know what everyone"s thinking or feeling. Limited omniscient - we only know one character"s thoughts. Objective - we know nobody"s thoughts; we are simply observing the scenes. Cosmic irony - when something happens that wasn"t expected. Dramatic irony - when a character doesn"t realize what is going on, but the audience does. Verbal irony - when a person says one thing, but means another thing. In media res - in the middle of things. Foreshadow - an event that points towards another event that occurs later. Flashback - filling gap in narrative by using a memory.
