Origin of the cosmos: hesiod"s theogony ( genealogy of the gods ) described the world around him; his is the most famous grecian creation myth, hesiod: A greek farmer and poet, lived in 7th century b. c. Claimed that the muses inspired him on mt. Muses are goddesses who inspire creative people; inspired him to tell the genealogy of the gods. Chaos: an empty gap, void, nothingness: but then gaia, the earth, came into being . First basic thing you can see: after gaia. Eros: sexual energy/desire; energy that brings things together: from chaos: Erebos: the gloomy darkness of tartaros describe the depths of the earth. Erebos + night (night became pregnant by erebos) = Aether (brightness) and day: the opposites of parents. Gaia: the ever-firm foundation of all mortals, the mother of all , eldest of gods, who nourishes all things in the world , embodies fertility for all things, the children of gaia.
