Jewish practices: kosher (dietary) laws, food is a very visible facet in judaism. Rabbis further elaborate on more obscure verses for further specifity. Chewing cud : ruminants store partially chewed food in stomach and then regurgitate: clean animals: both chew cud and have cleft feet for further chewing. Not about being unclean : can"t have these things together. Seriously. i. maybe cause god said so thing? ii. health is always brought up (probably not) iii. differentiation w neighbors? iv. things that fit/don"t fit in categories? v. mystery. Can"t have meat and dairy at same meal. two sets of stuff: separate dishes, dishwashers, fridges, etc i. eating out-various approaches ii. visiting/receiving visitors-again varies iii. seems complicated, but not if its what youre used to. diff kind of kosher i. celebration of passover reenacts some events from the flight of egypt ii. get rid of levening (anything w yeast, baking soda, or baking powder) or basically all carbs for 8 days iii. not clean/unclean. Part of agreement w abraham in genesis 17.
