Document Summary

Figure out your city/town and you individually within the broader idea of the city and the group. Master-status; race, gender - everett c. hughes, i. e. first thing you think in mind when somebody says a basketball player first thing that"ll come to your mind is black and male. Race and social control, boundary patrolling (i. e. sexual boundaries), controlling women"s bodies; burden of racial purity and double standard. Intermarriage patterns; marrying up and down(other races), historical patterns. Often skip steps because of the stress that the couple has to deal with (others staring, gawking, talking, ostricization by families, etc) Could be used as justification: we put up with this because we love each other and we must love each other because we go through this together. Outsider"s perspective: it is about sex, trying something different, a phase, i. e. it"s not just sex, i love her i"m mature, this isn"t a game.
