EDFD 220 Lecture 7: Notes 6/14
Document Summary
I happened to really like parts of freire, because he chose not to focus on religion and he assumed that all smart people were against social injustices. Freire draws from three philosophies that are inconsistent but he is not inconsistent. The three philosophies he discusses are marxism directly, and hegel and existentialism indirectly. Existentialism deals with the world as opposed to in the world. Freire tries getting people to questions things, but never gives any indication of questions sexism, racism, homophobia. He assumes those values are not questionable and that any right thinking person would be against sexism, racism, etc. He is a marxist and doesn"t want to bring religion into it. Freire is a complex writer to interpret, and i have mixed feelings on him. I don"t know whether him assuming those values is a good thing or a bad thing.
