West end (royal portal: narthex, entryway, nave with side aisle and four part vaults, tree of jesse. A vine will grow from the loins of jesse, and christ will be the flower on that vine: charlemagne. *compare cathedral of santiago de compestela to cathedral od chartres: romanesque solidity, clear distinct parts. Many things had to be replaced after the french revolution. Louis ix and queen mother blance of castille: moralized bible, paris, c. 1230, grisaille and color, diaper pattern. The lower chapel: repainted in the 19th century. The upper chapel: windows replaced after the revolution, crown of thorns, blide arcade, statue columns in the interior of the building.
