Huntington"s disease: causes break down of the nerve cells in the brain, person would have trouble with movement and cognition. Polydactyl: more than 5 fingers or toes. Marfan syndrome: affects connective tissue, unusually tall, very long fingers/toes, tend to have shorter lifespan. Familial hypercholesterolemia: high cholesterol, defect in chromosome 19, elevated level of ldl cholesterol. Recessive: both parents need to be carriers and 25% chance that offspring gets it. Hemochromatosis: body absorbs too much iron, causes toxic damage to organs. Galactosemia: unable to break down galactose (sugar) Sickle cell anemia: very painful, red blood cells stick together and form clots, provides less amount of oxygen. Tay-sachs: found in eastern european jewish people, destroys nerve cells in brain and spinal cord, comes apparent in infancy.
