Document Summary

Body is made up of many chemicals. Matter: 3 states, liquid, changeable shape, defined volume, solid, definite shape, cannot move, gas. Energy conversions: can be converted from one form to another, not efficient. Isotopes: different forms of the same element that differ in mass, more neutrons in a nucleus = more unstable, unstable = radiation, radioisotopes. Isotopes that decompose to more stable forms: atom loses various subatomic particles, can turn into another element after decomposing. Ionizing: radiation transfers energy, thermals damage; limited chemical damage, low energy. Electrons: electrons can occupy areas around the nucleus n electron shells, octet rule, 8 electron in valence shell, can share/gain/lose. Hydrogen bond: attractive force between electropositive hydrogen of one molecule and an electronegative atom of another molecule, water. Increased temperatures usually increase rate of reactant: concentration of reactant. Increased concentrations usually increase rate: particle size, smaller particles usually increase rate, catalysts. Increase the rate of reaction without being chemically changed.
