What is ethics: philosophy- is the study (or love) of wisdom, wisdom is specifically diffentiated from knowledge, knowledge is knowing info. 5 branches of philosophy- everything is defined by what it is not: epistemology- studies knowledge, metaphysics- studies reality, aesthetics- study of beauty, art, etc, logic- sound arguments and correct reasoning. Human behavior is defined based on morality. Ethics is the study of morality: ethics is the study of the behavior, not the behavior, but the terms are used interchangeably in society (nature of morality) Hedonism- anything causing pleasure (happiness) is good or right, and anything causing displeasure (sadness) is bad or wrong. Only way to balance an extreme is with another extreme. Moral- that (cid:449)hi(cid:272)h is (cid:862)good(cid:863) or (cid:862)right(cid:863) Amoral- indifferent to right and wrong (what you chose to eat for dinner) Immoral- that (cid:449)hi(cid:272)h is (cid:862)bad(cid:863) or (cid:862)wro(cid:374)g(cid:863) (cid:894)(cid:862)e(cid:448)il(cid:863)(cid:895: definition of criminal insanity.
