ANT 252 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Tutsi, Hutu, Enculturation
Document Summary
Culture is a learned, shared behavior or understanding about how to behave. In rural mexico instead of a handshake they slap hands very gently. In some pacific islands, two people touch their heads together shown on the cover of thinking like an anthropologist. People of a culture do not necessarily have to agree. Arguing a value shows understanding of it. You are not born aware of culture. Children are experiencing adverse effects of being raised indoors. The eye is not developing properly because they haven"t been exposed to adequate amounts of sunlight and different distances. Enculturation- the process of learning about our own culture. Acculturation- the process of learning about other"s cultures. Cultural framework- how parts of a culture interact and are held together by meaning. It is made up of a system of parts all working together: parts include: education, technology, medicine, family, religion, gov"t, etc. Culture is compared to a web of meaning.
