1:12 pm: world forests, 29% of world surface, russia, brazil, us, canada, and china have more than 50% of the world forest, more than 10% of tree cover, resources. Lumber, paper, building mats: energy source, trees used to be most important energy source, but developed countries use more coal and oil now, ecosystem services. Logging and fragmentation of private forest land: when you fragment areas, the parts are not as great as its whole, edge effects, at edge of forst, you have higher temp and more wind. Less suitable for life than inside the forest: road building in wilderness areas, allow invasive species to come in. Invasive species: ex: saving the spotted owl was really about the forests. They were then given jobs within the national parks to give them jobs and promote their investment into the parks and caring for the env. Increased the economy of these areas: maintaining diversity and ecosystem processes.
