The term psychology derives from the greek roots psyche, meaning soul or mind , and logos meaning word. In the 1900s, it was considered to be literally the study of the mind or soul. In the 1920s, scientists decided to change this definition because to study the mind implied that the mind was a thing or object: mental activity is a process. It is not the car but the movement of the car. Psychology- the scientific study of behavior and mental processes (experience). Right to debriefing (explanation of what transpired during experiment, etc. Introspection-the method of people talking about their subjective experience (ex. Wanted to hear peoples" experience of perception. Wanted to create a table of perception (like the periodic table of elements) On the freewill-determinism question, freud stood for determinism. Determinism- the philosophical position that every behavior has a cause.
