Collective self: refers to a person"s identity as a member of the groups to which he or she belongs; irish, gay, christian, lutheran. Reflected self-appraisals: our beliefs about others" appraisals of us. Working self-concept: refers to the idea that only a subset of a person"s vast pool of self-knowledge is brought to mind in any given context-the subset that is most relevant or appropriate in the current situation. Social comparison theory: the hypothesis that people compare themselves to other people in order to obtain an accurate assessment of their own opinions, abilities, and internal states. Self-schemas: cognitive structures derived from past experience that represent a person"s beliefs and feelings about the self in particular domains.
