Document Summary
Sas can be used for many things. Proc steps that do that and much more. Keeps a record of code submitted, provides feedback. Output window (we"ll usually use the results viewer) Displays the results of any proc steps run. Put name and purpose of the file at the top. Include comments throughout the file to explain what each chunk of code is doing so that you have an explanation for review. Sas data steps or proc step - group of sas statements. Sas statement - line of code, starts with keyword, ends with semicolon. Data starts the statement, semicolon ends it. $ tells sas a variable is a character, not a numerical value ($ after variable) Datalines statement tells sas the data is about to be typed directly into the program (instream data) Data values typed in, ended by semicolon. Lastly, data step ends with the run statement. Print is the name of the procedure.
