Causes and human population o o o o o o o o o o. Overuse of species for hunting fishing trapping and collecting can diminish population size, increasing probability of extinction. Taking individuals at a rate too high for populations to replace themselves. Ex) bison, passenger pigeon, grouper, atlantic oyster o o. Fisheries- we are now fishing down the food chain o o o. Biomass of ocean fisheries has gone way down. Industrial fishing reduces fish biomass by 80% within 15 years. Large predator fish account for 10% of industry levels. Keystone species effect- species richness in trophic levels. Higher herbivore or secondary population so then that effects the next level down and these populations will be way smaller. If there is a higher predator than these animals such as sharks this will remove their food source --> more competition to have food sources. Adaptions- behavioral and trait responses in the prey.
