Introduction to cinematography: the shot: mis-en-scene and cinematography involved with camera. The creation of meaning intra-shot, rather than inter-shot (which is via editing) Framing (distance, angle, level, height, mobility, on/off- screen space) Nature of photographic image (choices in film stocks, speed of motivation, lenses, focus, depth, visual effects) Camera distance and framing: the *frame = onscreen space and six areas of offscreen space. Other frames behind or front of frame (where camera is) So want to be conscious of inside frame and outside of frame and are there any points where things outside frame are. With eye line match, we"re aware of rich (on powerpoint) or character outside frame whom person is looking at: camera distance or shot scale. Extreme long shot (els): very far away from central figure. Long shot (ls): entire human figure (head to toe) Medium long shot (mls): the most informative shot in terms of narrative or character information allows us to see background.
