PSY10000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Edge Detection, Photopsin, Color Constancy
Document Summary
Lecture: eyeball, our blind-spot is in the optic nerve, retina: has photoreceptors. Rods and cones: point towards the back of the eye. There are about 130 million photoreceptors in each eye. Saturated is pure color (pure red, pure blue: additive and subtractive color mixture, subtractive: taking away wavelengths (mixing color paint) =no reflecting back, additive: adding wavelengths from different sources. All wavelengths are present = white light = absorbs less light. Example: phone screens: three sites of color vision, retina, thalamus, visual cortes, theories about color, retina: trichromatic color vision. You need all three to discriminate where you are in the spectrum. Color blind: one of the receptors is missing/not working. Red and green are treated as the wavelength. Spontaneous firing rate: amount of unstimulated firing (response gradient) There are two types of green cones. Type of cone expressed is due to genetics. The two types are only observed in females. If you have both, you have better color discrimination.
