Saw a burning bush (sign that god is transcendent), yet it was not consumed. Moses wants to see the bush (theme of vision). God calls to moses and moses responds to him. Moses was afraid to look at god once he knew who he was. Because god is so perfect, he own sins and failings were too apparent. To see god meant that he would die. The story begins with god seeing the people of israel. If you are going to look at god, you have to look at things the way god looks at them.
