Catastrophic events: shocking, possibly life threatening events, can lead to serious psychological problems (i. e. natural disaster, 9/11) Life changes: especially negative events that call for adjustment (i. e. divorce, family illness, unemployment, moving) Chronic stressors: continue over a long period of time i. e. living near an airport or train station, experiencing constant discrimination. Daily hassles: minor irritations, pressures, and annoyances, cumulatively act as strong stressors. Resistance phase: obvious signs of stress reaction fade, body continues to cope with stress, hormones continue to be dumped into bloodstream, body settles in for the long battle. Exhaustion phase: sings of physical wear and tear.
