At low population density, the concentration of the signaling peptide is too low to bind to the receptors and stimulate dna uptake. Low liklikhood that these molecules are going to bind to a receptor because low density. Releasing ligands the concentration of the signaling peptide is high enough to bind to the receptors and stimulate dna uptake. As you increase the number of ligands bound to receptors, it enhances the overall response of dna import. Shows how bacteria cells can recognize bacteria density.
