Descent with modification evolution doesn"t just change spontaneously. Unity all organisms share certain basic properties in common. Aristotle; named the father of classic taxonomy. Aristotle believed species never changed once they were put on earth (fixity of species). He also believed that man was not subject to nature and that they were the result of a special creation. 1st word - genus of the organism. 2nd word - specific epithet of a species within the genus. Taxonomy ~ rules for identifying and classifying organisms. Domain - kingdom - phylum - class - order - family - genus - species. Adaptation ~ any modification that makes an organism better suited to its way of life. (evolution results in heritable traits which promote survival and reproductive success) All these processes occur to all species even humans. contrary to what aristotle thought.
