Types of Bonds
Covalent strongest bond, sharing of electrons
Hydrogen bonds sharing of hydrogens
ionic attraction between opposite charges. Between two metals.
hydrophobic interactions between non polar substances when in the
presence of polar substances.
van der waals interaction electrostatic forces. Interaction of electrons of
KNOW FUNCTIONAL GROUPS IN ORGANIC COMPOUNDS
Lipids soluble in organic solvents (benzene, acetone) and slightly soluble in
Simple Lipids fats and oils, waxes. Fats are solid at room
temperature, oils are liquid. The combination of Glycerol and Fatty
acids makes an Ester.
Carbohydrates – Most abundant type of biological compound found in living
organisms. Formed during photosynthesis. 6090% of plant dry weight.
General formula: Cn(H2o)n. Glycogen is a carbohydrate and a key polymer (
made up of repeated subunits called monomers). Glycogen is very compact
and has a high storage of carbon which is used for energy.
