Tudies ha(cid:448)e fou(cid:374)d that people respo(cid:374)d to their part(cid:374)er"s posture, gestures, a(cid:374)d other movement in social settings. This mimicry seems to increase liking and rapport between partners. Studies also find that people respo(cid:374)d to a(cid:374)other"s (cid:374)o(cid:374)(cid:448)er(cid:271)al po(cid:449)er moves with complementary responses (i. e. responding to dominant behaviour with submissive behaviour). This behaviour encourages hierarchical relationships: signalling service task functions. Role and situation factors are important because many of the same nonverbal behaviours involved in intimacy are also present in service-task functions. Examples: doctor and patient or hairdresser and customer.
